Bearings in motor are falling apart?

Keep this simple.

1. Got an oil change.

2. When it was done mechanic tells me that flapping noise is the bearings falling apart/which means motor is falling apart.

3. I was suppose to be driving 45 minutes out of town today, should I still go?

4. or wait until taxes come back so i can get a new car?

5. How long do you think before my motor completely shuts down? or whatever would happen to it, explain what would happen to it? explosion etc?

Car Type 2001 Saturn SC2 loved that car but i know it's time for a new one!Bearings in motor are falling apart?
If what you are hearing sounds like somebody banging on the engine with a hammer (not a small one, but one you'd use for home construction) you should avoid highway speeds. If you are hearing a lesser tapping you are good up to about 50 or 55 mph with no hard accelerations.

This brings us to the next phase - is the mechanic's diagnosis right? Rod knocks - the result of bearing failure - are pretty much unmistakable, but I wonder if the mechanic is being completely honest about it. A second opinion is in order before you decide where to spend money. If it is a rod knock the engine does not have much of a future. It will get you around town okay but higher engine speeds will indeed destroy the engine quickly in spectacular fashion - suddenly a connecting rod will break and will often poke a hole in the side of the engine, a process known as throwing a rod. If it is not a rod knock this bad scenario does not exist. Rod knocks are almost always the result of serious oil neglect, so if you have been good about oil changes you have reason to be dubious..Bearings in motor are falling apart?
You don't want to go anywhere because if the bearing go, you could blow a hole in the side of the block. All you need is new bearings. Take it to the saturn dealer and tell them u need new rods and mains (bearings). It is alot cheaper than a new engine. You might want to have it towed to be on the safe side.
Yes, your motor is Falling Apart. I also have some Swamp Land in the Arizona Desert that I would like to sell you. You need to take your car to a Certified Mechanic at an Automobile Dealer and have them do a Diagnostic Check. If you want to believe your Mechanic, then go right out and sell your car, or get the motor rebuilt, or See a Qualified Mechanic and find out what is really wrong if anything at all.

I have been driving cars and working on my own now for over 44 years, and have never heard such a thing. The Bearings in a motor, are flat curved pieces of metal that fit around the Crankshaft, and they do not fall apart. If they are worn, you will find metal shavings in your oil, and your oil may even be shiny.
Flapping noise??Bad bearings make a knocking noise in the lower end of the engine. If your bearings are going bad they can make the rod caps break and your engine will lock up.If you don't care about the car very much, you could try putting Marvel Mystery Oil or something similar in it(Lucas,STP,etc) in it and see if that'll quiet it down a little.Get another opinion on the problem if possible before you go any long distances.
