Can you change the hub bearings on a 2004 4x4 Ford Explorer Or is it all one piece?

Ok, I don't know much, but my mom just took her truck in to get checked out before they take a long trip and yesterday the guy said that something was wrong with the front wheel bearings and then he tells her this morning that he is having a hard time getting them out or some crap like that. '

Now at 5:00 pm (they leave tomorrow at 7:00am) he is telling her that her HUB IS CRACKED!

Aren't the 4x4's front hub all one piece assembly? I mean the rotor and the studs and the bearings you buy as ONE piece, you do not attempt to replace the bearings in those or do you?

How she gets a cracked hub is beyond me unless he cracked it.

Any expertise advice is appreciated.

You are right the hub has the bearings inside it and it is a sealed unit. The rotor is not part of the hub and comes off separately. I have never encountered a cracked hub before. If you can hear noise from the side of the truck which bearing or hub is in question then you probably need to replace the hub/bearing assembly. You may want to get a second opinion if you feel unsure of the first mechanic. Can you change the hub bearings on a 2004 4x4 Ford Explorer Or is it all one piece?
the hub is one piece the rotor is separate if the hub is seized in to the knuckle where it mounts to it may be damaged but that would most likely have happened to anyone trying to remove the bearing, would have been a better idea to have it checked out sooner than the day before a long trip
