How easy or hard is it to change Wheel Bearings on Fiat Punto?

The bearings on the front wheels of my Fiat Punto need changing and the local garage is backed up for weeks (they've had my Ducato motor home since November). Can anyone talk me (well hubby really) through how to do it?How easy or hard is it to change Wheel Bearings on Fiat Punto?
Not difficult to do but you will need a torque wrench, a good socket set and a free couple of hours!

Take off wheel and remove hub centre cap and undo the nut (very tight)! Somone will need to be in the car to apply brakes and make sure car is in high gear! Once the nut is off the bearing should be visible - remove it! Apply good quality high melting point grease to the new bearing and fit! Replace the nut and tighten to the specified torque using the torque wrench! Put wheel back on and move to the next!

Make sure you TIGHTEN TO SPECIFIED TORQUE SETTING!

Should be about it!How easy or hard is it to change Wheel Bearings on Fiat Punto?
A vast amount of tools including sockets and spanners, a hydraulic press.

Remove wheel trim, using large socket remove driveshaft hub nut, it's easier to do this with the wheel on the ground. Once hub nut removed jack up car and remove wheel, loosen mac strut pinch bolts (2 of them) loosen track rod end (1) loosen lower ball joint pinch bolt. knock out mac strut bolts tacking care not too damage threads of bolts, with nut still in place on track rod end, where the track rod end fits into the hub, strike hub area with force using a hammer and this should ';shock'; track rod end and this will loosen track rod end in hub, remove track rod nut and move track rod end refit nut to track end it will save threads, remove lower ball joint pinch bolt and knock lower ball joint from hub and hub and drive flange will now lift clear, using special pliers remove snap ring which holds bearing secure and then using press, press out drive flange and then bearing, refit all in reverse order, by the way make sure you use WD40 on all bolts/nuts and even wire brush these before then spray with WD40 it will help the dismantling and build up.

These instructions are only rough and anyone will think the job is easy but beware these bearings can be a pig and corrosion and old age can cause endless problems.

Good Luck
If the car is front wheel drive, its harder to do because the bearings will need to be pressed into place with a press, and you would need a puller to remove them. There is quite a bit of work involved,as you need get the hub of to replace the bearings.Think I'd entrust it to a local garage.
gsf1200 is spot on but beware if a late model with abs the abs sensor is a manetic strip on the inner bearing seal any damage to that affects the abs
is he good with spanners?

That is not realy a job for an amateur so many things can go wrong and it could be dangerous if is not done correctly . my advice if you are going to do it. get you hubby to invest in a workshop manual they are not exspencive , most local car spare shops sell them . it will give you a step by step guide and also point out all the pitfalls
